Month: August 2013

  • Birthday Trip

I got my husband to take off work and go diving for my birthday.  We went three days to murky lakes in Texas.  Yes, murky lakes because that’s the only type of lakes there are in Texas…..

Today we found a shark in the lake.  70 feet long made of steel and you can swim through him.  Oddly enough not as creepy as coming upon the sunken airplane.

  • Just Life

Daria looks like an old pro holding babies.  Here she is holding her new cousin Margaret.

She wanted to hold Margaret because Katya (Katrina) is too squirmy and cries too much.  lol

I think little Katrina is just a drama queen.

How fast they change in just a month’s time.

  • “But mom, smiling will mess up my hair!”

You could never tell from this photo, taken before her first day of first grade (today) that the day was “AWESOME!”  But that was the word of the day used many times over in my after school conversation with Cadence.

  • A day of new beginnings

Today was Daria’s first day of first grade. She loves school and loved her first day of first grade.  She put on her traditional white bow for her hair (a Russian tradition only I need to get her a BIGGER bow…. hers is much too small to do a Russian justice), paid attention to mama, and completed all her work.  I understand she did great.  Little brother on the other hand was a little terror with mom distracted and Katrina didn’t want to sleep so mom said it was a successful day but a stressful day all the same.  Ah, that is life isn’t it.

Today also was the birth day of Margaret Sue Collins.  Grandbaby #9.  She joins her big brother Fergal and is a real little beauty.  8 lbs. 9 oz and a petite 19 inches long she had some rolls of fat on her already….  She was a noisy one too, complained long and loud about having to make an appearance.

I have to admit I was touched to have her share my middle name.  Hannah said they chose Margaret in honor of my mom.  Even though Hannah never met my mom she said the memories I share of her made her want to have her daughter share her name.  And Sue is my middle name and Hannah said she wanted her daughter to have something from me.  So Margaret Sue it is…. I think it might evolve to Maggie Sue ….  possibly.  :)   Fergal wasn’t quite sure what to think of her.  He was more interested in the raisins that mom had.  Food trumps sisters any day.

  • Torn and a birthday celebration.

I’m a little torn, keep blogging here or move on?  And if I move on what happens to all my “stuff”?   I have the archives and I won’t lose any of my posts for my own use… but do they delete them or do they go on to the internet in the sky where anybody can use my photos etc?  Just a question…. hmmmm… perhaps I should ask.

Until then and since I don’t have another place to put them right now…. Family photos.  Today we celebrated my husband’s birthday.  With family of course.  :)

    From left to right:

    Fergal – 18 months.  Daria – 5.  Savva – 2.  Cadence – 6.  Grandpa – 56.  Katrina – 2 1/2 weeks.  Walter – 3.  Wren – 5.  Otto – 7.

Yes, the Incredible Hulk is our grandson… or rather our grandson is the Incredible Hulk.

This boy LOVES to swim.  His name is now Fergal Fish.

Fergal Fish has Goofy Gal for a mama.

He blew out “all” his candles so his wish should come true.  He said he wished for grandbaby #9 to be born tomorrow on his birthday.  I’m sure Hannah would like that too.

  • Forever Young

It is August.  Already.  Seven months of the year gone by and I have to reflect back on the seven months and wonder how it has passed so quickly.  In 20 more days I will be 54 years old.  Unfortunately I don’t look in the mirror anymore and wonder where the 18-year-old went, now I wonder where the 40-year-old went.

But as I told AmeliaJake the other day, I’d rather be 54, or 64, or 74 than forever young in someone’s memory.  I can’t even picture my mom in her 70s.  or 80s.  Eternally young.

    So I’m not complaining.

Although I am complaining about the heat.  This triple digit heat is a killer!
